I caught the maiden spring quite unaware
I saw the limbs of beauty she possessed
And then as if embarrassed by my stare
She trembled for a while then quickly dressed
I saw miss summer fabulously wed
I watched the clouds their rain confetti bring
A gentle breeze and marriage vows were said
The golden sun became her wedding ring
And it’s oh how the days go by
Oh how the years persist in coming on
Will I know good fortune’s smile before I die?
Will I know the reason why before I’m gone?
I saw old autumn bow her dying head
And dry leaf tears she wept upon the crowd
Young doctor winter soon pronounced her dead
And then with snow he wrapped her in a shroud
